What’s the connection with sleep and weight loss?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Sleep is good.
chubby baby sleeps which is good to keep hormones in check and lose weight
And it is important. Very important! It plays a huge part in your ability to recover from a workout. Nutrition is also a huge part in your ability to recover form a workout.

But where nutrition has the ability to change and shape your body like nothing else, it also has the ability to ruin you. Likewise, so does sleep. Well, not enough of it to be exact. Sleep deprivation can cause you to be fat because of hormones leptin and ghrelin

What is sleep exactly? You do it everyday, and so does everybody else. It is very important and very necessary for human function, otherwise we would be up 24/7. But we’re not. robots can stay awake but humans cannot, if we could we could burn fat and lose weight and increase our metabolism all day says Columbus Personal Trainer Jason YunSome people need more to function at optimal levels, some need less.

But what is the optimal level? I’m sure you’ve heard numbers thrown around. 8 hours is best! You need 7-9 hours. Some say at least 6.

Nobody can give you a definitive answer, because everybody is different. Some people function on less then 6 hours. But are you functioning optimally? sleep and weight loss can be caused by lack of rest and bedtime

The body acts differently depending on the stimulus that is put on it. More stress will cause you and your body to need more sleep, but you probably won’t get it cause of all the stress on you.

But what about lack of sleep and weight loss? Is there a connection? Well, it was pretty easy to find. They do studies on pretty much anything and everything nowadays. Some studies are obviously worthless and you wonder why they even did some. But sleep and weight loss are pretty important topics separately. But is there a connection between the two?

One of the studies was done by the University of British Columbia, and it showed significantly more people are likely to be overweight if they get less then 7 hours of sleep a night.

The likely culprits for this are two hormones called leptin and ghrelin. I’ve written about leptin before and it’s affects on weight loss. Leptin is an appetite depressant, it basically tells you when you’ve had enough, and a lack of sleep decreases this hormone in your body. Ghrelin is an appetite stimulator, and it gets increased with a lack of sleep.

So if you are sleep deprived, basically you have less of a hormone that is supposed to tell you ‘you’ve had enough’ and more of a hormone that is supposed to tell you ‘give me more’. Not a good combo.

And the average number of hours per night of sleep that the average American is getting now compared to about 40 years ago is about 2 hours less.

So the point is getting your sleep! Not just for muscle recovery from a hard workout, but also to keep those nasty little hormones in cdog sleep and sharpei puppy needs it\'s beauty sleep just like overweight men and womenheck. No wonder it’s referred to ‘beauty sleep’.

It’s Here and It’s Free! Prograde Longevity!

Friday, November 6th, 2009

You can’t really miss it on the Internet these days. Seems like everywhere you look there’s another company promoting the nutritious Acai Berry as a weight loss miracle. It’s all a bunch of hub bub trying to get suckers to buy into it. And if you have been suckered don’t feel bad, it’s genius marketing on their part.

And that’s why I thought it was critical to write you today. We want to make sure you know my opinion on the subject.

First, you know better than to believe you’re going to pop some pills – ANY pills – and have the pounds and inches melt off like magic.

If you’ve been listening to me for any length of time you know true fat loss comes from a variety of factors, including exercise and proper nutrition. Consistency and effort need to be put forth everyday to achieve the results.

Second, any fitness expert worth their fees will tell you that any diet that promotes you eat any one food all day long and then eat a sensible dinner, well, don’t bother.

Yes, you will lose some weight short-term, but as soon as you go back to your old eating habits – and you know you will – you know exactly what happens. Metabolism slows to snail’s paces, fat burning is non-existent, muscles get eaten off your body to survive. The yo-yo effect :(

Third, the Acai Berry contains VERY powerful antioxidants and it is getting a lot of good press for that very reason. Yes, antioxidants as in the extraordinary nutrients that help fight the free radicals associated with aging, cancer risk and other degenerative diseases. It’s a super food.

And while on the subject, I wanted to fill you in on something that has recently come to light. Did you know that coffee berries (the berry that covers the coffee bean) is one of the most powerful antioxidants on the planet? It’s something researchers have discovered here in recent years.

What’s really cool is my boys at Prograde Nutrition have created an amazing Whole Foods based Anti-Aging formula called Prograde Longevity that includes both Acai Berry and Coffee Berry. Oh, and it also utilizes Green Tea, Pomegranate, Wolf Berry and Biovin Grape (Red Wine extract.)

Just to give you an idea of how powerful this formula is, well, you’d have to eat an entire POUND of raspberries to get the same ORAC value. And in case you’re not familiar with the term, ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity.

The best part is you can now try Prograde Longevity for free! Just click here to get your free bottle today.

PS – Remember, Prograde Longevity is NOT some silly weight loss pill. It is a powerful combination of anti-oxidants specifically designed to give you extraordinary protection against dangerous Free Radicals.

Lazy Days of Summer Can’t Stop Prograde Nutrition From Blasting Fat Away

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Summer is great for fat loss and Prograde Nutrition and their Post-workout weight loss shake
Well, the guys over at Prograde Nutrition have done it again. This time they’re giving you every incentive to beat the Lazy Days of Summer and make sure you don’t skip your workouts.

They’re put their research based Prograde Workout recovery shake on sale! It’s 10% off all this week.
Prograde Workout, Prograde Nutrition after your workout. Post-Workout Shake to burn fat and lose weight
Now, the really cool thing about his product is all the science behind it. Most people just don’t realize how important pre and post-workout nutrition is.

Post workout nutrition is the second most important meal of the day. Skip this meal and your body is going to struggle getting back to pre-workout states. Plus the fact that all your stored carbs are gone and muscles are screaming for protein. Fat loss will be minimal without this meal. Who wants that. Put in the effort to blast through a great workout and then blow it by skipping your post-workout nutrition.

If it’s a time thing not any more. Prograde Workout is here to save the day like Mighty Mouse at a Cheese Factory Mighty Mouse will use Prograde Workout after his exercise to help burn body fat or Rambo at a deserted Vietnam Prison Camp. John Rambo and Sylvester Stallone know the importance of post-workout nutrition for fat loss and to build big strong muscles

Oh, and on this page you will also find all the details on how to save 10% off Prograde Workout.

But hurry, because Prograde’s Lazy Days of Summer Sale ends this Friday, August 14th at 11:59pm EST.

Be Strong!

Columbus Bootcamp Instructor Warns of Hydroxycut Ban

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

hydroxycut banned for liver problems
Hydroxycut is a fat burning supplement that got super popular back in the 1990’s. It sold 9 million units last year. But it is now under fire and the FDA is warning people to stay away from it. It’s been linked to many cases of liver disease and at least one death.

The company that produces Hydroxycut, Muscletech, has agreed to recall 14 of their products in the Hydroxycut line. The products are marketed to people wanted to burn excess body fat, lose weight, energy boosters, and meal suppression. The 14 products being recalled are:

Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
Hydroxycut 24
Hydroxycut Carb Control
Hydroxycut Natural

The FDA received 23 reports of liver problems and the death of a 19-year-old male started to raise suspicion regarding the supplement.
Liver problems from taking hydroxycut from Muscletech

Jason Yun, a certified fitness bootcamp instructor and sports nutritionist, says that ‘products like these are unnatural, and shouldn’t be consumed at all.’

‘The products caused death in several cases when ephedra was used in it,’ Yun continues, ‘When Hydroxycut was banned from using ephedra they had to use something else to try and make it as effective or face going out of business. So just like before, it’s a bunch of stuff chemically combined that we really don’t know how it will affect the human body in the short term and long term. Obviously it is starting to come out with these problems.’

Yun recommends people go a natural route for fat loss and weight loss by combining solid nutritional practices with weight training and interval exercise.

‘Those two methods of exercise are the absolute best for fat loss. And the one’s I use most often in my bootcamp classes. Stay away from hyped products that promise miraculous results. The only supplements you will ever need are a whole foods multi-vitamin, fish oil, meal replacement, recovery drink, and a whey protein supplement. All the other stuff is pretty much just flushing your hard-earned money down the drain,’ Yun proclaims.

3rd Phase of Columbus’ Premier Weight Loss Bootcamp Now Registering

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Yun Fitness Bootcamp Logo
The third phase of 2009 is about to get under way for Yun Fitness Bootcamps. 3 new class times are being added. A 9 am and 2 Express camps at 12:00 and 12:30. The new camps will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Jason Yun, the owner and head instructor, expects says ‘that camp spots are filling up rather quickly’.

Yun’s bootcamp has been around since July holding camps in Dublin and Hilliard. And is a quick 45-minute workout held 3 times a week. Participants, or as Yun calls them ‘Camp Superstars’, think the time just flies by. The mixture of fun games, activities combined with interval and weight training makes the time fly by.

‘The only people that seem to wish it were shorter are the newcomers,’ Yun says, ‘But that doesn’t last long. It only takes a couple weeks for a new camper to build up tremendous conditioning.’

And if you are new to Yun Fitness Bootcamps you’re in luck. Yun offers all new campers a chance to try it out free for two weeks. People will find out real quick if it is for them. Making it past the 2-weeks is a huge accomplishment, especially if someone has not been working out. . Only the truly motivated and committed make it through. And then you’re on your way to a healthier you, and you’ll start looking better naked in no time!

Yun offers 3 important tips when starting an exercise program:

1. Get Your Mind Right!
You have to mentally be ready for it. Change isn’t easy. So you can’t back out at the first sign of difficulty. Push through the wall and succeed!

2. Consistency
You have to do it on a consistent basis. Exercising here and there is not going to bring results—period! People do that all the time and eventually quit because their not getting results. Prioritize exercise. If you want to look good and feel good it needs to be scheduled just like you schedule a doctor’s visit or a haircut.

3. Effort
Goes back to consistency. Just showing up and putting in a half-ass effort isn’t going to bring results. The number 1 factor weather or not an exercise program is effective or drives results is—intensity. Intensity is how hard you are working. Just going through the motions will get you nothing.

The next Phase of Yun Fitness Bootcamps starts up on March 16, 2009. To register for your free 2-week trial go to http://YunTraining.com/2weeksfree.html. Or email JYun@YunBootcamps.com

Phase 2 of the Premier Fitness Boot Camp in Columbus is About To Start Rocking & Burning Fat!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Phase 2 of the Premier Fitness Boot Camp in Columbus is About To Start Rocking & Burning Fat!

Columbus, OH– The New Year has started off with a bang in 2009 for Yun Fitness Bootcamps and his superstar campers! The camps are growing month to month and had a surge of participants in January with the New Year’s resolution crowd to get in shape and lose those holiday pounds. February looks to be no different, and even busier.

Jason Yun, the owner and head instructor of the self-named fitness boot camp, brings something new and exciting to camp each day. “It’s definitely not boring,” Yun says, “I even got bored with the gym scene; same thing everyday. I’ve been teaching these camps since July and never repeated a workout. Campers love it and keep coming back for more!”

Boot camp is also a thing moving with the changing economy. With the economy in such a recession boot camps provide a reasonable alternative to one-on-one, or small group training prices. “The workouts I do give you better results, in less time, at less than 1/3 the cost of one-on-one personal training.”

Members of Yun Fitness Bootcamp can’t say enough about it either. Katie Phillips has been coming to camp since October, and had nothing but great things to say, “I love bootcamp! I was never motivated enough to work out at a gym on my own, and couldn’t afford a personal trainer. This is the perfect place for me. Plus, I’ve made a lot of friends. It’s a team-like atmosphere, everybody moving towards the same goal of looking better. It rocks!”

One thing that separates Yun’s camp from all the others in the Columbus area is that he offers all new campers the chance to try out the camp for free for 2-weeks. “You find out pretty quickly if it is for you or not. But most people are hooked after just one workout,” Yun says. With camps in the early morning and evenings, and two locations in Hilliard and Dublin these bootcamps give you plenty of options to start making some serious body changes.

Yun offers these 3 tips when it comes to picking a fitness bootcamp:

1.) Make sure the camp caters to your fitness level. A good camp will be able to accommodate a beginner up to an advanced trainee at the same time. And will be able to give progressions and/or alternative exercises for each and every exercise.

2.) Make sure the instructor is certified through a Nationally recognized organization. There are a lot of organizations out there that you can become certified online overnight with no skills or training in fitness at all. Gyms all over the country hire people with these online certifications too. It is what causes people to have bad experiences with fitness professionals and gives the industry a bad name. Look for certifications from institutions such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association or the National Academy of Sports Medicine; these institutions also require a 4-year degree in a fitness related field.

3.) Make sure your instructor looks the part. Is your instructor physically fit and always looking for new research and ways to make you and themselves better? Are you going to believe someone giving you advice when you are in better shape then they are?

Columbus Boot Camp Trainer Reveals 8 Healthy Super Bowl Party Tips

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009
It’s Super Bowl time! The teams are set: Pittsburgh and Arizona. The date is set February 1, 2009. So that means its time to start planning your Super Bowl party. Lots of friends and lots of goodies. Parties like this can be tragic on you if you are trying to watch your weight. Why not make the partier a little healthier with some quick tips that can save you thousands of calories:

DRINK WATER: You want to make sure to drink plenty of water. About 2-4 cups before the party starts and drink regularly throughout the party. This will ensure a full stomach and will prevent overeating.

NO BUNS: Take the buns off for all sandwiches. Try a lettuce wrap, or just cut the meat up and eat it plain.

LEAN PROTEIN AND VEGGIES: Start with these items first. They will fill you up and cause you to not eat as much junk. You won’t be filled up with saturated and trans fats, or worthless sugar, instead you’ll be filled up with nutrient, fiber, and protein dense foods.

STAY AWAY FROM LIQUID CALORIES: Try and eliminate, or minimize greatly the fruit juices, pops, and alcohol. They usually don’t fill you up at all, and actually cause you to want more. Opt for the water, low-cal drinks, or have a piece of fruit instead.

DON’T EAT OUT OF THE BAG: Always put your portions on a plate. Eating out of a bag or container you can’t control the portion size and usually overeat big time. And with all the extra excitement and distractions around it will usually be multiplied.

DIPS ARE A NO-NO: Instead of cheese, dressings, or dips opt for guacamole. It is super healthy with healthy fats and fiber that will fill you up quicker and make you feel satisfied.

STICK WITH WHOLE GRAINS RATHER THAN WHITE: If you are serving, or eating, chips, breads, rice, tortillas, or pasta try and make it a whole wheat/grain version. They’re packed with more fiber, vitamins, minerals, and overall healthier for you. It will fill you up faster.

HAVE HEALTHY SNACK BARS OR MEAL REPLACEMENTS: Serving up and having the option for healthy snacks are always good for the host. The guests will probably look better at you for having the option. Food snack bars like Prograde Cravers, Lara bars, Cliff Bars, and other such items will make the healthier people their feel more comfortable, and make the experience more enjoyable.
