Phase 2 of the Premier Fitness Boot Camp in Columbus is About To Start Rocking & Burning Fat!

Phase 2 of the Premier Fitness Boot Camp in Columbus is About To Start Rocking & Burning Fat!

Columbus, OH– The New Year has started off with a bang in 2009 for Yun Fitness Bootcamps and his superstar campers! The camps are growing month to month and had a surge of participants in January with the New Year’s resolution crowd to get in shape and lose those holiday pounds. February looks to be no different, and even busier.

Jason Yun, the owner and head instructor of the self-named fitness boot camp, brings something new and exciting to camp each day. “It’s definitely not boring,” Yun says, “I even got bored with the gym scene; same thing everyday. I’ve been teaching these camps since July and never repeated a workout. Campers love it and keep coming back for more!”

Boot camp is also a thing moving with the changing economy. With the economy in such a recession boot camps provide a reasonable alternative to one-on-one, or small group training prices. “The workouts I do give you better results, in less time, at less than 1/3 the cost of one-on-one personal training.”

Members of Yun Fitness Bootcamp can’t say enough about it either. Katie Phillips has been coming to camp since October, and had nothing but great things to say, “I love bootcamp! I was never motivated enough to work out at a gym on my own, and couldn’t afford a personal trainer. This is the perfect place for me. Plus, I’ve made a lot of friends. It’s a team-like atmosphere, everybody moving towards the same goal of looking better. It rocks!”

One thing that separates Yun’s camp from all the others in the Columbus area is that he offers all new campers the chance to try out the camp for free for 2-weeks. “You find out pretty quickly if it is for you or not. But most people are hooked after just one workout,” Yun says. With camps in the early morning and evenings, and two locations in Hilliard and Dublin these bootcamps give you plenty of options to start making some serious body changes.

Yun offers these 3 tips when it comes to picking a fitness bootcamp:

1.) Make sure the camp caters to your fitness level. A good camp will be able to accommodate a beginner up to an advanced trainee at the same time. And will be able to give progressions and/or alternative exercises for each and every exercise.

2.) Make sure the instructor is certified through a Nationally recognized organization. There are a lot of organizations out there that you can become certified online overnight with no skills or training in fitness at all. Gyms all over the country hire people with these online certifications too. It is what causes people to have bad experiences with fitness professionals and gives the industry a bad name. Look for certifications from institutions such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association or the National Academy of Sports Medicine; these institutions also require a 4-year degree in a fitness related field.

3.) Make sure your instructor looks the part. Is your instructor physically fit and always looking for new research and ways to make you and themselves better? Are you going to believe someone giving you advice when you are in better shape then they are?

Obesity- more proof you need to lose the fat

Fat is not sexy

For cultural reasons, many Jamaicans still associate obesity with good health and sex appeal. These beliefs are false. It has been very well established that obesity puts the individual at increased risk of a long list of diseases. One medical journal listed 130 disorders connected to excess body fat. Authorities now consider obesity to have replaced cigarette smoking as the commonest preventable cause of death.

Less publicity, however, has been given to the fact that excess fat can also interfere with your sex life. Researchers at Duke University’s Diet and Fitness Center in the United States reported that, in many areas of their sex lives, the obese report 25 times as many problems as people of normal weight. Both men and women complained of lack of sexual desire and enjoyment, along with poor performance. In fact, many fat people reported avoiding sex completely.

But let me provide some consolation to our ladies – the location of your excess fat is important. Truncal or abdominal obesity creates the most problems. Often called apple-shaped obesity in distinction to pear-shaped, the truth is that it is “fat around our waist that will shorten your life in a haste”. Research shows that a waist measurement of more than 39 inches in men and more than 34 inches in women will increase your risk of these problems by a whopping 500 per cent. The fat around the hips and buttocks is not considered hazardous to your health.

Let’s look at some reasons why obesity may compromise sexual function:

HEALTH PROBLEMS

The obese are at increased risk of many diseases and, in general, the poorer your health the worse your sex life. This is especially true for illnesses involving the heart and circulation as good blood flow is a major requirement for good sex (Viagra improves erections by chemically increasing blood flow).

Even when you have not been formally diagnosed with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes or abnormal blood lipids, if you are obese, it is highly probable that your circulatory system is already compromised. In addition to poor blood flow, diabetics also suffer from damage to nerve endings and a decreased responsiveness to sexual stimulation. Sadly, the obesity epidemic has brought with it the diabesity epidemic.

If that were not enough, many of the drugs used to treat these diseases further impair sexual function.

DECREASED FITNESS

The sexual act involves increased physical activity. Low energy levels, shortness of breath, muscle cramps, dizziness and fatigue during and after intercourse are all signs of the lack of fitness that is characteristic of many obese individuals. Because fat cells promote inflammation in the body, generalised aches and pains, stiffness and inflammation is more pronounced in the obese. Gross obesity will sometimes create major problems for partners to find a comfortable position for sexual activity.

HORMONAL IMBALANCE

Our libido or sexual interest is greatly influenced by our sex hormones – testosterone, oestrogen and progesterone to name the commonest ones. Obesity promotes hormonal imbalance in both men and women. The fat cells around the waist are not just accumulations of fat, they produce hormones, particularly the primary female hormone oestrogen.

Commonly, this creates a situation where an obese man may have very high levels of female hormones and low levels of the male hormone testosterone. This is partly because the fat cells in the belly are rich in an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone to oestrogen.

To make things worse, many chemicals in the food we eat, the air we breathe and common skin and hair-care products behave like estrogen. These chemicals are mainly fat soluble and accumulate in the fatty tissues in the body. All this leads to a situation where fat men are hormonally more like females, resulting in a decreased sex drive and weak erections.

Fat women may have other kinds of hormonal problems leading to menstrual disorders, infertility, ovarian cysts, excess facial and body hair, acne and painful sex.

POOR SELF-IMAGE

Research show that obese individuals are more likely to suffer from low self-esteem and poor self-worth. This kind of emotional disability does not foster good sex. Although many men find big women attractive and consider curves and love handles appealing, it is more common for partners of obese people to no longer find them sexually attractive because of their weight gain. They usually deny or suppress these feelings to prevent hurt and avoid confrontation.

In reality, however, this denial blocks communication and only harms the relationship. Clinical obesity is a life-threatening problem. Partners of obese individuals have a responsibility to help address the issue, if for no other reason than the many health dangers that obesity causes.

BOTTOM LINE

There are so many compelling reasons why we should all make the commitment to losing those excess pounds. I suggest a simple, safe, doctor recommended, nutritional approach called Cellular Nutrition. The programme comes with a personal weight-loss coach and is available all over the island. You really have no excuse.

Do You Eat Fat?

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Well, you most certainly should be! But not all fats are created equal. What types should you be getting? The major players are saturated, polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, trans, omega-3, omega-6, omega-9, and flatystomacher.

Ok, I’ll admit I made the last one up. But it would be nice to eat a fat that does that. Everybody wants ‘easy’. If exercise were available in a pill, it would be the #1 selling pill on the planet. But unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Coach potato is how people get fat, you won\'t lose weight sitting on the couch, exercise in a pill will never work

Fat is necessary, for everybody. And it is necessary everyday. Dietary fats provide extremely important functions that take place in the body everyday. Your skin and cell membranes are two things in your body that need dietary fat to be healthy. If you don’t have healthy cells, your much more likely to get sick, be less productive, have less energy, and a host of other unwanted side effects.

But cell damage can happen anyway if you are eating ‘bad’ fats. Fats that have been altered chemically. These are the fats that make food very cheap to produce and also make your foods taste good. These are most of your processed foods you will find in the supermarket, and the ones that will have misleading claims all over the box (most processed foods do come in a box) Processed food usually comes in a box and has really bad fats that will lead to weight gain, disease, and death
praising what’s inside and making you think that it is okay to eat.

If cells are damaged the rest of the body has to work extra hard to try and repair it and/or continue on with all the other processes that occur in your body on a daily basis. Bad Nutrition doesn’t just affect the weight gain and fat gain; it can also cause some serious cellular damage. It can cause your insides to age prematurely, which will affect your outside. (Extreme Example)

I’m sure you have heard ‘health experts’ say to keep to a low-fat diet. It’s the absolute best way to lose weight avoid disease and stay healthy year round. Some of them are still saying it at this day in age when we have scientific proof that dietary fat is good for us.

I will admit I fell for it to. Back in High School when I became super interested in health and fitness, I took my nutrition to an extreme place. I was on a low-fat diet with a capital-LOW-FAT. I wish I had kept my dietary logs back then, but I do remember most weeks my dietary fat wouldn’t get above 3.5% of my total calories per day. And in high school I was trying to gain weight, big time, so my calories were between 3,000- 4,000 a day.

If I could go back in time in my Delorean I would most certainly smack the tuna fish and power bars out of my younger self.
Today, my dietary fat hovers in between 25-35% a day with right around the same amount of calories.

But it’s not the processed kind of fats being eaten. Most of the fats are good, healthy for you fats. The kinds you find in olive oil, nuts, natural nut butters, fish, fish oil, seafood, eggs, naturally occurring fats in animals, seeds, avocados, and coconuts. Most fats have been lumped together by people, and so it sort of scares people that eating ‘fat’ will make you ‘fat’ and ‘sick’ and die prematurely. It’s just not the case!
coconuts are loaded with saturated fat that is good for you. some fats are bad and will cause obesity and diabetes says Columbus Personal Trainer Jason Yun
The majority of your fats should come from unsaturated sources. So the sources I mentioned in the former paragraph are great place to start. It should comprise about 20-30% of your daily caloric intake. And always remember you should be splitting up your meals into at least 5 smaller meals spread throughout the day!

And don’t be afraid of saturated fat either. You need to be getting some everyday. It should comprise less then 10% of your daily fat calories though. But there are some healthy saturated fat sources out there like avocados, coconuts and eggs.

The real ones you want to avoid are hydrogenated oils (trans fats). Just because it says ‘No Trans Fats’ on the package doesn’t mean its true! Check the ingredients for hydrogenated oils. Other fats to avoid may seem obvious to you, but some people bat a blind eye to it, like fried foods, potato chips, donuts, pastries, etc… Trans fats are bad and should be avoided to lose weight and get healthy other wise you will be fat and unhealthy

Don’t be one of those people who give fat a bad name. Love your healthy fats!
