A Complete Guide on How to Become the Best Nutritionist that You can Be

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Nutritionist, dietitian, food expert – no matter which term you wish to
apply to it, it all boils down to the same thing. A nutritionist should be
an expert at what he or she does.

And the main focus of the profession is promoting good health through
proper diet and nutrition. As such, you need to be an expert in food and
everything that involves nutrients, modified diets and fulfilling a
patient’s nutritional needs.

It’s basically an overall health care which focuses again, on food and
nutrition.

Top Tips on How to become the Best Nutritionist

Just as it is with every other profession, there are certain things that
you need to keep in mind if you wish to become an expert at food and
nutrition. Take a look at the following tips:

1. Educate yourself.
How can you be a Registered Dietitian, for example, if you will not get
proper education? If you want to become a professional nutritionist or
dietitian, the first thing that you need to work on is earning a degree.

Don’t get sucked in by taking an RD degree from a run-of-the-mill school –
make sure that the educational institution that you will enrol in is
reputable. Check the school’s accreditation and determine the number of
hours of internship required by your state for you to become a
full-fledged Registered Dietitian.

2. Pursue a higher degree of education.
When you’re an RD, you can either work in a research facility, a hospital
or another institute which requires the services of a food and nutrition
expert. If you want to advance your career, it’s a good idea to pursue a
higher level of education – like taking up a Master’s or PhD in nutrition.

This will not just allow you to earn more, but also pursue bigger things
and advance greatly in your profession.

3. Love what you do – and excel in it.
The food that man is consuming is constantly evolving. By being aware of
what is happening around you, having a love for what you are doing and
excelling in your field of food and nutrition – you can become the best
nutritionist that you can be.

4. Be a role model.
Finally, make sure that you are practicing what you preach. How can you
become a good role model as a nutritionist if your students or your peers
see you eating a relatively unhealthy diet?

By following these tips, you are bound to become the best nutritionist
that you can be and excel in this particular field of study.

Is Social Support The Answer To Permanent Weight Loss?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

One of the keys to losing weight and keeping it off… Well there actually is a bunch of them. But some people who are really struggling or who want to find a great way to stay motivated need to turn to this fat loss gem—Social Support. Or accountability. Social support will help you lose weight and keep it off. Friends will help you stop being fat

It’s one of the biggest reasons why, or why not, people will lose the weight they want. It’s tough to stay motivated and have a laser focus on something that takes a long time to accomplish. And depending on how much weight you have to lose, it can take as little as several weeks up to years to lose all the weight that you want.

Social support can keep you honest and motivated. Who can give you social support? Friends, family, co-workers, people in authority positions, mentors, personal trainers teachers, kids, etc… It really doesn’t matter who it is, all that matters is that they want you to succeed as much as you do.Donald Trump and success can equate to weight loss and fat loss success to look sexy with muscles

Nobody can really pinpoint why social support is so valuable in the weight loss game. But including family and friends in your plan has been proven highly effective. Your friends and family don’t have to be following the same plan you are to support you either. But someone who is encouraging you to eat healthy and exercise is someone that can truly help you on your road.

The other side of the road is those who don’t support you. These are the kinds of people who make fun of you while you eat your healthy meals and snack all the while stuffing junk down their throat—taunting you in a way. Stay away from these people as much as you can—it will only slow you down. cats eating fatty foods, people who eat junk food will die young and be overweightYou need to be in a positive environment as much as you can with positive people giving you encouragement. You have to stay driven to your goal.

With this being the age of the Internet there are also some good social support resources online. Obviously there are weight loss forums all over the Internet. These are great as you can post your entire food log and exercise log on them. People are very supportive on these forums as they are in a situation similar to yours.

Social sites are also very good accountability tool. One of the best to use is Twitter. Twitter you can tweet about your food and exercise and nutrition and lose weight with social support of your tweepsIt basically is a site you can tell everybody what your currently doing or what is on your mind. But it is also useful to post all your meals and workouts on it. Try and find some people already on Twitter or get a group of friends to follow you and keep you honest with your nutrition and workouts. Any slip-ups in either and you can bet your friends will be on your case, and in most cases people you don’t even know will add their 2 cents.

Another good site would be Facebook. With Twitter you can only post 140 characters worth, but with Facebook you can do a whole lot more. Even I have been known to make comments about current or former clients meals. So watch out!

There are a lot more social sites out there that you can use. Most of them have the ability to communicate easily amongst people and that’s what will keep you honest and motivated towards your goals. Give it a try! Find some people that you know will support you. It doesn’t have to be just about losing weight or your nutrition, it can be working out consistently, and giving all you effort each time. Let them know you want them on your case if you are slacking. If you do that I can guarantee you chances of succeeding will go up dramatically.

Apparently I’m Fat!- Spammers are getting cute

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Here is a message I got today from an obvious spammer. It’s kind of funny, if I really were overweight I would be insulted. I took out the website they directed me to cause I don’t want them getting their desired result.

Hey there,

We are buds in the real world, but I am using this random email cuz I need to tell you this without revealing myself.

Well the thing is that you’re getting overweight. I realize that its a little mean of me, but I sense that you needed to be aware of it. I did not feel like telling you in person cuz I don’t want to ruin our relationship and I don’t want you angry with me.
I truly think that you need to do something it, and I have tried to help. Ive been doing some surfing on google and I actually stumbled upon something significant.
Its an easy new thing, but it seems like it’s reasonably large-scale already. I got a few reviews and a lot of people that I heard from are extremely happy with it. Surprisingly, I also found out that my Aunt used the same method a few months ago and when I asked her about it she was 100% delighted with it.
I told her about your position with this and she greatly recommends this. She also gave me some advice for you, that you must be patient and that it will all pay off eventually.

The product is BLAH they even offer a free trial now as well.
I unquestionably believe that you need to at least use it for a little and see where it goes. I am frankly just trying to help out, I want you to be happy.
Dropping a few pounds will should make an impression on you know who as well, ;)

Good Luck

BTW, as i said before this is a fake account I got so don’t reply to this.

5 Foods That Will Help Improve Your Mood This Holiday Season

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Halloween is about up. Which means the Holiday season pretty much here. The Holidays tend to bring a lot of stress into people’s lives. All the plans that need to be made, the juggling of schedules, the gift buying and giving, the crowded malls, the gobbling turkeys, and all those darn Santa hats.

What else tends to happen around the holidays for most people are diet and workouts suffer. Bad nutrition and not working out will lead you to be a very unpleasant Mr. or Mrs. Scrooge.

And with everything else going on top of that…

That’s why I stress the importance of good eating. Not good eating in the way of eating BBQ spare ribs

everyday tastes good, but good eating in the way of staying healthy with your nutrition and only cheating on your diet less then 10% of the time.

This is what will keep your mood up. Be happy! The holidays are supposed to be fun. Don’t get stressed. So here are 5 foods that you can eat to help improve your mood. And they aren’t just for the Holiday season either; year round these foods can make you feel good.

Food #1

Spinach.

Calorie for calorie this green leafy veggie provides more nutrients then almost every other food on Earth. Scientifically proven to help protect the brain from age-related declines. A healthy brain will make you happy. Also loaded with the vitamin Folate, which has been linked to depression if the levels are too low.

Did you know Subway has spinach? Replace your sandwich with the nutrient-dense spinach from that nutrient-less romaine lettuce next time. Always opt for a spinach-based salad when you can. Your mood will thank you.

Food #2

Dark Chocolate.

No! I am not talking about Snickers or Milky Way Bars either. The chocolate you want to look for is ‘high cocoa-content dark chocolate’. 60 percent cocoa or above. 70 percent or higher are the best but it is hard to find. But don’t pig out on it either because of the palmitic acid type of fat in it. But chocolate has been proven to release endorphins and will boost serotonin levels, which will give you a happier you. But again keep the intake low—no more then a couple ounces a week.

Food #3

Walnuts.

This nut contains more Omega-3 fatty acids then any other. You need Omega-3’s in your diet. One of the many benefits of Omega-3’s is that they support brain function. They have been used in depression studies and have helped considerably. Your brain and mood go hand-in-hand. They don’t call Omega-3 fats ‘brain food’ for nothing.

Food #4

Salmon.

I’m only talking wild here, not the farm-raised. Wild salmon contains probably the most Omega-3 fatty acids in it then any other food. Notice how we’re coming back to Omega-3’s? The wild kinds of salmon who dine on their oceanic friends are full of this wonderful fatty acid. However the farm-raised kinds are fed grains, not exactly the kind of grub you’ll find in the ocean and rivers where salmon live. The result is a fish that produces very little Omega-3 fats and produces a lot more of the inflammatory Omega-6 fats. We already get more then enough of this fat in our diets. So stick with the Wild Salmon and improve your mood and health.

Food #5

Eggs.

And yes I mean the whole egg. I wrote an entire article on the benefits of this food. For starters, it is without question the absolute best whole protein food you can eat. People are worried about the cholesterol and fat though. But you see eggs contain Choline, which is a B Complex vitamin that many people will be low on if they avoid foods like eggs. Choline to be ‘used’ appropriately by the body needs to be in the presence of fat. Eggs are perfect because of the fat already naturally occurring. Without getting too scientific choline is connected to memory and thought- both very important for affecting mood.

Nutrition for Sports Workouts

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

By Adrienne Carlson

You don’t have to be a pro to be into sports in a major way; all you need are an interest for the game, a passion to work on your skills, and a certain amount of talent to keep you going. Playing a sport is a great way to exercise and stay fit – it does not get monotonous like a gym routine; it allows you to connect and mingle with friends and family; and it gives you a general sense of physical and mental well-being. But as amateur sportspersons, we do tend to make a few mistakes, some of which could end up being more costly than we bargained for.

For one, we may injure ourselves if we forget to warm up or cool down correctly before playing the sport, and for another, we fail to provide our body with the right nutrition before and after a game.

Playing the game and taking part in workout drills and practice sessions takes a lot of energy and stamina; you lose water and tend to become dehydrated if you are not careful; and you’re liable to cramps and muscle pulls if your body runs low on minerals and salts. So if you are into sports big time, here’s how to keep up with your nutrition needs:

• Pre-game or workout nutrition: Drink enough water to keep you hydrated, and if your workout is going to be intense or if you think you need extra energy for a game that could go on for some time, try a sports drink that is packed with carbohydrates and electrolytes.

It’s important to stay hydrated in situations where your body is bound to sweat a lot and lose water and essential salts. Avoid eating close to game time or just before a workout. Ensure that your meal is fully digested before you begin working out in order to avoid heartburn or other symptoms of discomfort. Eat carbohydrates that are easy to digest like pasta and bread, fruits that are high in sugar content, juices or other liquids that provide energy.

Although it may seem to perk you up, avoid loading up on caffeine because when it leaves your system, you feel a drop in your energy levels. Also avoid foods that are high in fat and difficult to digest.

• Post-game nutrition: Remember to spend enough time cooling down and relaxing your body if you’ve been involved in an intense game or an energetic round of exercise. Eat food that is rich in protein and which helps repair and rebuild worn and aching muscles. Drink water slowly instead of gulping it down to prevent cramping. Also remember to drink water and other energy fluids during the game or workout to prevent dehydration and loss of essential salts.

You may not be a professional, but that’s no reason not to be professional about your nutrition needs when it comes to playing a sport.

Fighting Fatty Foods For Fat Loss Success

Monday, November 9th, 2009

It might be an obvious statement, but the foods we put into our bodies fall into one of two categories – either it’s good for you or it’s not. If we Americans continue along the path of eating foods in the latter category, then being overweight will become the norm.
Fat cats and fat people are normal, weight loss needs to happen to get thin

Foods that cause us to gain weight have common characteristics. Before putting something in your body, think about if it falls into one of the following categories:

• High in calories
• Lots of sugar
• High in fat
• Lots of salt or sodium
• Lots of ingredients
• Little to no nutritional value

I recently came across the website “This Is Why You’re Fat”, this is why you are fat, bacon cheeseburger, extra sauce, which serves as the perfect of example of why obesity is such a problem in our country. The site reveals photos of foods laden with fat, sugar and sodium that people actually ingest. Although these are ingredients that appeal to our tastes – and things every fast food restaurant, cookie maker, donut baker and ice cream parlor exploit to reel in business – these very things are our pitfalls when tackeling our weight loss goals.

If you want to become lean and healthy, you need to fight the cravings for the fried, sweet and salty. You can start today by avoiding these “bad” foods:

• Fast food fast food kills you and makes you fat and unhealthy
• High calorie/fat condiments (dressing, gravy, mayonnaise, cream, etc.)
• Sweets (cookies, candy, ice cream, etc.)
• Soda (including diet drinks, which even with no calories increase your appetite for “bad” things)
• Special coffee drinks (Regular coffee is ok, but add 200 to 500 calories of cream or sugar and all nutritional value is lost) Special coffees, and cappuccinos will make you gain weight and be obese with diabetes
• Fried foods
• “Fat Free” packaged foods (You take all the fat, sugar or sodium out of a food and you need more of the other two to make it taste good. Don’t fall for deceptive packaging. Heidi Klum fat free food makes you fat with added sugar and sodium
• “White” foods (All the nutrition has been taken out of processed foods like rice, pasta and bread. In addition, these foods cause an instant blood sugar surge can wreak havoc on your body’s insides.)

This is not a comprehensive list nor will eating these things every once in a while hurt you, but if you are eating these types of foods every day, you will not succeed in your weight loss goals.

In addition, you will probably not feel as good as you should. Eating “bad” foods can cause mood swings, energy swings, headaches, nausea, cravings for more bad food, stomach problems, indigestion and other daily disturbances. diarrhea is bad, eating fat foods and processed will make you fat with indigestion

If we want to lead healthy, productive lives, we need to start replacing the “bad” foods with “good” foods. Additional weight does not fit into an equation for healthy living and the key is to start analyzing your diet now, before fat starts creeping onto your thighs and stomach. To examine how well you’re eating, record these simple things:

• What do you eat?
• When do you eat?
• How much do you eat?

Start your diet makeover slowly, gradually replacing the “bad” foods with the “good.” If you replace one item per week, in a month’s time, you will notice how much better you feel. Keep in mind, you can eat a lot more “good” foods then you can “bad” foods before going over your daily calorie requirement.
