Are kettlebells expensive?
If you look at the price of a kettlebell aroound the internet and in sporting goods stores, the price might scare somebody off.. Especially somebody that’s looking to start a home gym, or get into kettlebell training.
I’ve been looking at different prices online and have noticed a big difference in prices. Dragon door kettlebells are hyped as authentic Russian kb’s. Russia is supposedly the place where kb’s came from. If you look at there kettlebells they range from $65 to $248. For a 10 pound bell it’s $65, a 53 lber is $110, and a 106 lber is $248. Yikes! I can see why that would scare somebody off.
Let’s look at a one company that I use. Muscle Driver. Great kettlebells, and what I like is that they give you 3 choices. A black style, grey style, and a fitness one. My guess is the fitness ones are more geared towards the ladies, as a big black cannon ball could be a little intimidating. I’ve seen these kind sold by quite a few other companies. I guess it just has a layer of latex around it. Whatever, not for me.
Muscledrivers for the black series range from $43 to $236. These ‘bells actually go up to 132 lbs! But in comparison to dragon door it’s $43 for 8.8 lber, $98 for the 53 lber, and $193 for the 106lber. The grey series is a little cheaper, about 25-30%. I have used both, and really the only difference is the black handles are a little more slippery. Nothing a little chalk can;t fix, though. But both are high quality.
Also, those prices are not with shipping. It costs a pretty penny to ship iron across the world.
The kettlebells I started with were from Ironwoody. Unfortunately, I recently learned that they are in the process of discontinuing them. What I really liked about theirs was the 5 pound increments that they went up in.
They were my favorites kb’s.
The price of kb’s seems a bit high, when you just look at it from the standpoint of it’s just a piece of iron. But you have to look at them as being more than that. Look at the standpoint of what they can do for you. And think of all the BS fitness equipment and crap you have tried before, used once, and now it’s collecting dust, or being used as a clothes rack, or something. Kb’s are tried and proven to work. More versatile than your dumbbells and barbells, you can do all the same exercises with a KB. But you have the added benefit of the dynamic exercises. The snatches, swings, cleans, jerks, and high pulls are unbelievable at building explosive power, creating awesome strength endurance, and zapping fat right off of your body.
So look at a KB as something you will use for the rest of your life. It’s an investment into your health and well-being. Plus they take up a lot less room than that treadmill ;). But I guarantee this, once you get your first one and start training with it, you will want more. It’s the way of the kettlebell.
